Although Lufthansa don't offer in-flight entertainment on short-haul flights, they still pride themselves on offering quality food to all passengers on all flights.
First and business class passengers enjoy quality menus and fine wines as part of the airline's "Connoisseurs on Board" service concept. And all passengers can choose from the airline's 26 special menus.
The European carriers are really bringing down their coach products. I flew on a brand-new LH A340 two years ago when a late LH flight missed my connection to UA in FRA and they put me on their next flight to IAD instead of the next UA flight. The plane had no personal video in coach, the weirdest food I've ever encountered on a plane (true mystery meat), and bad legroom. The only thing they have going for them vis-a-vis the US carriers is free alcohol
We flew LH from EWR to Frankfurt and back and did have the seat back video screens, (although, some of the transatlantic flights do not have them) the food was good and so was the legroom. They have those awesome seats where the person in front of you can't recline and squish your legs because the back of the seat doesn't go back, the part of the seat you sit on goes forward. If you want to recline, you are only annoying yourself, really. The plane looked brand new, actually. We were in the mid thirties, row wise. It was a 2-4-2 seating configuration. Of course the exit rows are great, all that extra legroom. We will be flying with them again next week to Dusseldorf.
